Valentine's Day Flowers - What Guys Should Know

For most of us guys, flowers are a mystery. We know the reaction they get and that flowers are a great way to show how much we care. We also know that flowers are a pretty good way to get out of the doghouse. And, there's no question that a thoughtful bouquet for Valentine's Day can send just the right message of love, friendship, infatuation, or romance. But, most of us don't know a posy from a pansy. Fortunately, we don't have to be floral experts to make a heart bloom this Valentines. All we need is a little common sense.

Sending Roses? They're not all created equal. Roses vary widely by stem length, blossom size, color, quality, and price. That's right, guys, roses are not always red. So, consult a florist you trust about the best available colors and quality options. Red is still the most popular color at Valentine's, but many women surveyed prefer shades of pink, peach, orange, lavender, and other more feminine hues. And, all roses symbolize love.

On a budget? There's more to Valentine's flowers than just roses. Consider a fresh mixed bouquet in pinks and reds, a colorful Spring assortment, a soft pastel cluster of blossoms, or a simple vase of tulips. Almost anything is appropriate for Valentine's, and mixed fresh flowers are often a better value than roses in February, simply due to supply and demand.

Arranging Delivery? If you're sending flowers to the workplace, consider delivery relatively early in the week. Your flowers will be enjoyed more before the weekend, and the recipient will be the envy of co-workers still waiting for their gifts. If you're planning a date on Valentine's weekend, sending flowers early can also be a great way to set the tone and let your Valentine know you're looking forward to the time together. For deliveries to the home, anytime Feb. 11 through 14 is fine. Keep in mind that with flowers, it's often a good idea to request delivery a day early, just in case the recipient is not home when your gift first arrives.

Ordering online? You'll find florist designed and delivered bouquets and direct-shipped, unarranged flowers in a box. Both options have advantages. What's best for your Valentine? Flowers designed and delivered in water by local florists are ready to be enjoyed and often make the best overall impression. So, florist delivery of arranged flowers should usually be your first choice for gifts to the workplace or anyone who may not want to arrange their own flowers. For gifts to the home and those who may enjoy placing their flowers in a vase, direct-shipped roses, lilies, tulips, and mixed bouquets offer an excellent value and the added convenience of online delivery tracking. The choice is up to you.

There are other common sense guidelines when sending flowers. Order early. Be sure you have the recipient's complete delivery address and phone. And, don't be a too frugal. A few dollars extra can make a big difference with flowers. But, there's one tip from smart Romeo's that's the most important of all. No matter what flowers you send for Valentine's Day, remember to include a note that says, "I Love You!" Those three words can make any Valentine's bouquet the most beautiful flowers in the world.
